What I Learned About Multiple Streams of Income – Lessons from Funke Adejumo

Yesterday, I had the privilege of attending the annual Baptist WMU (Women Missionary Union) Convention where Rev. Funke Adejumo delivered a game-changing session on “Exploring multiple streams of income: working hard in the hard economy“. Her message on the importance of having multiple streams of income was not only inspiring but deeply practical. I left feeling both challenged and motivated to take action.

Rev Adejumo began by debunking the myth that you can’t be a full-time wife, mother, and Christian while also running a profitable business. She pointed us to the Proverbs 31 woman who was not just a prayerful woman, but one who was productive, resourceful, and economically empowered. That image made me rethink how I manage my time and talents.

One of her most striking statements (paraphrased) was: “Business is either a product or a service, just ensure you are solving a problem or adding value.” That really stuck with me. She emphasized that you don’t need millions to start a business. Begin with what you have and where you are. There are countless opportunities around us such as catering, baking, farming, fashion design, communication services, or selling goods online. She even talked about structured ventures like stock trading and exporting local food items like nuts, dried fish, spices etc to Nigerians abroad.

She took it further by breaking down the food value chain in a way that opened my eyes. You could own a poultry, resell eggs, bake with eggs, manufacture egg crates, or offer delivery services. “People will always eat,” she said – a reminder that everyday needs are often the best places to build businesses.

A core part of her message was about financial discipline. Rev. Adejumo warned against the trap of spending all our profits on luxury items just to impress others. “Life is not a competition,” she declared. Instead of spending extravagantly on the latest bags or shoes, we should be saving, reinvesting, and growing our businesses. Prayer and fasting are essential, but without wisdom and planning, financial breakthrough may remain out of reach.

She also stressed the importance of supporting our husbands financially and not being entirely dependent. As true helpers, we must be spiritually alert, economically aware, and financially responsible.

By the end of her talk, I knew I had no excuse. I went home and reviewed my own resources and skills and guess what? I’ve come up with another stream of income! I’ll be unveiling it soon and I hope you’ll support me.

In the meantime, don’t wait. Do your research, start small, and take that first step. Let’s rise and multiply what God has placed in our hands.

  1. Thanks Sis! Got the message just as if I attended..
Start with what you have and see how God multiplies it. I will recommend this book “start with what you have” by Pst Sam Adeyemi.
